ABOUT US

HISTORY OF CAVAWAC

Coalition Against Violence Agaisnt Women And Chidren (CAVAWAC) was founded in 2007 by Joseph K. Siaw (Systems Administrator) and Francis K. Nyamekye (Journalist) who were challenged immediately after knowing these facts and reflecting to the Goaso community.

  • Worldwide, of the more than 130 million primary school age children not enrolled in school, nearly 60% are girls.
  • At least one in three girls and women has been beaten or sexually abused in her lifetime.
  • Households headed by women and girls are the fastest growing segment of the world poor.
  • Dropping out of school gives a girl 90% chance of living in poverty as an adult.
  • 36% of all global mariages are girl child marriages (under 18)

These girls and women are our sisters, friends, mothers, wives, in-laws, business partners and etc. Why then do we continue to let these things happen to them?

CAVAWAC has therefore become an asset for the community thereby helping women and children especially the girl child air out their views and champion their own affairs. Remember that we all have a role to play to ensure that women and children have their own rights and liberty.

MISSION STATEMENT

CAVAWAC was established to fight against gender discrimination, violence against women and children, child trafficking and to promote the girl child in all standards of education.

Through diversity trainings, seminars, workshops and other education outreach programmes, CAVAWAC promotes understanding and provides positive role models and supportive images of socially marginalized women.

"We believe that taking an affirmative action for the empowerment of women and children especially the girl child is an issue of justice".
