SAY NO TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CAMPAIGN

As part of our 2-year project " Say no to domestic violence campaign" to combat domestic violence in the Goaso community. We had a talk with the youth in Goaso concerning the pending election in Ghana on the 7th December, 2008. The topic of this talk show was: "An Election free of Violence" . We organized this programme in collaboration the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) - Goaso at the Wesley Methodist Church - Goaso on the 12th October, 2008.

The effects of domestic violence whoever said men and women are equal must be blind. Women have always taken a back seat to men in Ghanaian society not to talk about children. There has always seemed to be one set of standards that apply to men, and another set of standards that apply to women. This is evident in the home, workplace, and all throughout society. Domestic violence is a very important social problem that we must educate ourselves on because it has such a profound and negative effect on the individual(s) being abused. They are affected mentally, emotionally and physically.

Domestic violence against women is going on seriously in Ghana including Goaso - B/A, these women who are abused tend to think that there is no way out because they are so dependent on their partners. Besides, because there is not body to fight for them, these abused women and children (especially the girl-child) continue to put up with the abuse and learn ways to cope with it, meanwhile it is killing them softly. Domestic violence against women and children is gradually sending a lot of women and children (especially the girl child) to the grave in the Goaso Community almost every week. Recently, a final year student (girl) and a boy of 16 years just died in the Goaso community as a result of domestic violence. If this continues, then we can be sure of the fact that our community Goaso has no bright future.

CAVAWAC has become an asset to the Goaso community thereby helping to fight against domestic violence against women and children. CAVAWAC has started a one year project " Say no to domestic Violence Campaign"  to combat domestic violence in the Goaso Community.

It was a one day say seminar, which came off on the 4th May, 2008. The theme for this seminar was : "Say no to domestic Violence" and the topic was " A Life free of Violence is our right women". From left to right is  Pastor W. K. Bediako and Mrs. Beatrix Quarshie - Brown (Main Speaker for the programme). Pastor W. K. He advised men to control their temper and to love their wives as the Holy Bible instruct men to do.
